§ 01 — WORKSHOP

Auto-trans specialist on the Mid North Coast

Most workshops won't touch an automatic transmission overhaul — too specialised, too much risk, too expensive a paperweight if you get it wrong. Ryan and Mick built R & M to be the workshop that does. We're the only automatic-transmission specialist between Ballina and Port Macquarie — a 410-kilometre stretch of coast — which means most of the auto-box work between Grafton and Kempsey lands on our floor.

ON THE FLOOR — RYAN NICOL (RIZO) + MICHAEL HUGO (HUGGSY), plus Zoey & Danni

§ 02 — MANIFEST

What lands on the floor.

Eight workshop services. Two are the speciality. The other six are the work that keeps the lights on between rebuilds.

  1. TRX·OH SPEC

    Automatic transmission overhauls

Full strip-and-rebuild on automatic transmissions — the work nobody else within 250km will touch. Diagnose, dismantle, recondition, dyno-test, refit.

  2. TRX·SVC SPEC

    Automatic transmission servicing

Fluid + filter + pan-clean on schedule. Catches the failure-creep that kills a box six months later.

  3. MAN·TRX

    Manual transmission repairs

Clutches, syncros, gearboxes — hauled out, sorted, back in. The other half of the workshop's name.

  4. DRV

    Driveline & differentials

Tail shafts, CVs, universals, diff overhauls. The bits between the box and the wheel that cost more than the wheel.

  5. LBK

    Logbook & general servicing

Manufacturer-spec logbook service for every make. Stamped, recorded, warranty-safe.

  6. PSL

    Pink-slip safety inspections

NSW e-safety check on the spot — Ryan is an Authorised Safety Check inspector. Pass or honest report; no inflated re-checks.

  7. ACG

    Air-conditioning re-gas

Re-gas, leak-test, condenser flush. Mid-North-Coast humidity is a system; we keep it on your side of the windscreen.

  8. DGN

    Diagnostics & general mechanical

Check-engine, intermittent shudder, the noise that only happens at 80 — scan tool plus 18 combined years on Coffs Harbour cars.

§ 03 — FIGURES

What's on the floor this week.

Workshop-manual figure callouts. Cars in for service, custom builds in the bay, the valve-body off the back bench. No filter, no pin-board scatter.

§ 05 — FAQ

Quick reference.

What people ring up to ask before they bring the car in.

  1. Q. 01

Do you actually rebuild the transmission, or send it out?

We rebuild it on-site. That's the whole point of R & M — most shops within 410 kilometres have to send the box to us or to Sydney. Strip, recondition, dyno-test, refit. Quoted up-front, talked through before we start.

  2. Q. 02

Can you do my logbook service and keep the warranty intact?

Yes. We service to manufacturer spec across every make. Stamps the book. Keeps the new-car warranty current. Australian Consumer Law means the dealer can't void it because we did the service.

  3. Q. 03

How long does an auto-trans overhaul take?

Five to ten working days door-to-door, depending on parts availability and what we find when it's apart. We'll quote a window after the diagnostic, and call you the day before pickup.

  4. Q. 04

    Do you do pink-slip inspections?

Yes — Ryan is an Authorised Safety Check Inspector (NSW MVRL54957). E-safety check on the spot. Pass or honest report; we don't inflate re-checks to chase the second visit.

  5. Q. 05

    Where exactly is the workshop?

Office 1, 5 June Street, Coffs Harbour NSW 2450. Behind the industrial estate off the highway — look for the Authorised Safety Check sign and the row of black HZ Premiers out the front.

  6. Q. 06

How far do you travel? Do you tow in?

We're a workshop, not mobile — but we recommend Coffs locals for tow-in if your car can't make it. Ring us first; we'll line it up. We service Coffs Harbour, Sawtell, Toormina, Boambee, Bonville, Korora, Sapphire Beach, Woolgoolga, Macksville, Nambucca, Bellingen.

  7. Q. 07

    Do you take cards?

Cash, EFT, EFTPOS, Mastercard, Visa. GST-registered (ABN 80 340 954 721) — proper invoice for fleet and rural-business customers.

  8. Q. 08

    Open Saturday?

    Mon–Thu 8 am – 4 pm, Fri 8 am – 2:30 pm. Closed Sat/Sun. We're a small team and we like a weekend off the spanners.
